Day 14: Scary Vaginas & Amber's Weave

Today we had a presentation about integrated health care systems which had a large focus on HIV/AIDS and female genital mutilation. She discussed how aids is transferred as well as the cultural aspects that help further the transmission. One of her main focuses was female genital mutilation and working together with the traditional leaders and key village people to discontinue the practice not only for the well-being but so that the spread of HIV is stopped. The presenter also brought models to show the different types of female genital mutilation and they were BRUTAL. They made everyone a little sick to their stomachs and our professor was so uncomfortable that after the presentation was over she went up and switched out the model for the regular vagina so that she didn't have to look at it anymore. 


Anyway, enough vagina talk. Today was exciting because Amber got a weave. Yep, she got braids and like I told her it would, the procedure took 6 hours. She was very calm and patient. I was quite proud of her :)
