When I woke up this morning, I was incredibly ill. I was nauseous, exhausted, dizzy, and delirious. I couldn't hardly stand. Due to this, I stayed home today and slept. I hated missing out on class, but was really just too sick. I slept on and off all day, and ended up doing some strange stuff in my delirious state. I ended up in Amber's bed and changing clothes for no reason. I didn't know who I was at one point. I am pretty sure I had a fever, but around 2pm I started to feel better and went outside. I sat on the steps and John, the house boy, joined me. We played crossy road on my phone before taking pictures. I let him use my phone and we took turns taking pictures of each other. He also helped me practice my swahili greetings and questions. John doesn't speak much english so we had a little trouble communicating, but it was nice to talk to him.
Then, Baba came home and made sure I ate something. He cut me a few slices of watermelon and poured me a bowl of cereal similar to grape nuts. Then, he took a nap and I worked on homework. We have daily social justice "journals" where we relate an experience we have had or something we've seen to that day's chapter in our textbook. They're a little bit of a whip, but not too bad.
After that Mama, Baba, Amber, and the kiddos (Glory and Frank) came home and Amber caught me up on what i'd missed. Mama gave me a big hug and kisses on the cheek. Mama and Baba are so great and took such wonderful care of me. The kids wanted to play, but I was still pretty tired and dehydrated so I just watched them be silly. Then, I watched the Tanzanian parliament with Baba. He was very engaged, but I had NO idea what they were saying. Soon after, the kids came in and started causing a stir. They danced and played with us, and generally made a ruckus but it was great. This family is just so lovely and i'm so lucky to have been placed with them.
Now, I am waiting for dinner. After dinner I will likely have tea with my Mama and Baba before trying to drink at least another half liter of water before heading to bed early and trying to sleep off the rest of this funk. I'm sure i'll feel better tomorrow.
