My name is Brianna Waters, I’m 21 years old and a senior at the University of Oklahoma. I am majoring in social work and planning to continue working on my education after graduating this May with my Bachelors of Social Work by enrolling in the OU Masters of Social Work- Advanced Standing program. This means I will be able to graduate with my graduate degree in only 3 semesters! I love my school and my program because I am incredibly passionate about social work, social welfare, and social justice. I volunteer with the Women’s Outreach Center at OU as well as with Valir Hospice in OKC. I’m also a practicum student at Calm Waters, a grief and divorce support group agency for children ages 3-18 and their families.

I love my school and I love the Social Work Program!

I spend my time working as an unpaid intern at Calm Waters, volunteering at Valir Hospice, working on homework, reading, and trying to still find time for fun and friends. I enjoy dancing, blogging, writing, reading, volunteering, working out, going to the lake, traveling, coloring, learning new things, watching movies (particularly comedies, horror films, and documentaries), and spending time with my friends and family. I also spend a pretty good chunk of my free time giving my cat, BooBoo love and reading the news. I like to stay up-to-date on current affairs and further educating myself on different cultures, social welfare programs, social justice issues, and fun facts.

I'm an intern for Calm Waters

I'm a volunteer with Valir Hospice

I'm a busy busy bee, with a super packed schedule:
  •  I am lucky in that I only have class on Mondays from 12:30 to 4:20.
  • I spend 20 hours a week at Calm Waters- i'm there Mondays 5:30-8, Tuesdays 10-8, and Thursdays 9:30-5.
  • Wednesdays i'm on-call with Valir and usually schedule any appointments or extra activities (such as agency tours) on Wednesdays.
  • I spend 8-2 at Valir on Fridays.
In between all of this I have to fit in time for homework, friends, family, pets, doctor visits, lap band fills, other practicum activities that don't fit into the above times, fun, and some me-time... plus a little bit of sleep. It's hectic, but I am doing what I love and am passionate about what I do, so it does not burn me out or get make me too stressed. I just have to make sure my time management skills are on point!
